Ohio Wildlife Center

On July 1 and 2 2008, the Ohio Wildlife Center admitted 14 duck from the Britton Woods apartment complex in Dublin, Ohio They were very ill and were exhibiting symptoms of poisoning of unknown origin. The ducks were treated aggressively for all common toxins and received round the clock treatment by our staff. On intake, they were given fluids containing electrolytes every two hours by stomach tube during the first 72 hours of hospitalization.
Unfortunately six of the ducks died with a few hours after intake and the rest slowly improved with in hospital treatment.
Laboratory result confirmed that toxin was botulism, a bacteria the thrives in ponds and aquatic sources with lowered water levers. Britton Woods has been encourage a healthier water quality for their aquatic residents.
The 8 live ducks are now healthy are ready for release and are undoubtedly looking forward to returning to their home.
